Clifftop 09

Clifftop 09

I've noted the key after the tune title. The fiddlers are tuned for D = ADAE, for G = GDAE. Interesting, this cream of the crop had no tunes in A. There might be some in the larger collection of recordings, and I might even get around to posting some more. Don't hold your breath, but do stop back from time to time. I might just put up a few more surprises. I figure Larry's got all the C tunes covered. :-)

What luck I had this year. The first night at Clifftop, I met up with some folks from Pennsylvania at a super jam in G. Glen Carson, Barb Schmid, Todd Clewell, and some unidentified folks in the shadows - thanks for these really nice tunes!

Down The River _G
Eadle Alley _G  Lots of Melvin Wine tunes around the jams this year. More likely, I've started to pay more attention to where tunes came from.
Jaybird Died of the Whooping Cough _G
Pennsylvania Paddy on the Turnpike _G
Bullfrog on a Puncheon Floor _G    Last one here from the jam with the Pennsylvanians
Poor Old Napper _G  from Harvey Sampson. I want to try to learn this in cross G one of these days. I'm playing it in standard here. My festival friend, Barbara Taylor, buddy Bill, buddy Richard, good tune-sters Steve and Pete from Ithaca, and Danny Birnbaum on bass, if my memory is serving me right.
Moon Behind the Hill _G  I heard this at Lake Genero last year and still like it a bunch. What fun to play it with this batch of folks who jumped right on it. Oh, yeah, and it's another tune from Melvin Wine.
Paddy Won't You Drink Some Cider _D  Under Marge and Tony's tent
Possum's Tail Is Bare _D  Ahah! The source is Melvin Wine, and it's got words.
Florida Blues  Ambrose Verdibello and Buz Lloyd play some "old time rock and roll"
Tippy Get Your Hair Cut _G (GDad)  A walk on the wild side. Give this tuning a try sometime. Just drop your high E. It gives a sweet high drone.
Violet's D Waltz _D  I still have not found the real name for this waltz. I learned it from Violet Hensley at Merlefest this year.
Lil Gal Fool Ya _D  Credits and coaching up front on the recording. ie, 3 B parts. Gosh I could play this tune all week!
