Tassie tunes

This batch of tunes was recorded at a dance. The band is the Tasmanian Heritage Fiddle Ensemble, a group of young folks and adult students of Marjorie and Steve Gadd.

Black Cat Piddled in the White Cat's Eye / King Pippin's Polka / Home Brew Polka

Black Cat comes from the Cape Barren Islands, where the Aboriginal musicians kept the tunes alive for 100 years after the whalers brought the tunes in the 1800's.

King Pippin's will sound familiar, similar to the Jenny Lynd Polka.

Home Brew Polka was written by squeeze box player, Colin Petersfield of Tasmania.

As I understand it, the Irish Cake Walk is not a 'cake walk'. The story refers to the Irish Cake brand of tobacco.

Marjorie composed Nora's Waltz for her sister.
