Yarra Junction 2009

Yarra Junction 09

Recorded February 19 - 23, 2009. Actually, the location was at the Blackwood Mineral Springs. The organizers had to move the festival away from Yarra Junction this year because of a bush fire alert.
I've noted the key after the tune title.
The fiddlers are crosstuned for D = ADAE, for A = AEAE, for C and G = GDAE.

John Henry _A   Thanks to my mate, Tom, who figured out the complex math. :-)
Grey Eagle _A    A version that I learned from my Albany, NY peeps
Georgia Railroad Line _A
Uncle Dink _A  Google it, eh? :-)
John Brown's Dream _A  Yes We Can !
Keep That Ark A Movin' _A  Nice banjo from Mike.
Sal Went Down to the Cider Mill _D  One of my favorites, this session just rocked!
Blackeyed Susie _D  With Mike on the banjo. Apologies in advance if there's a little wind noise.
Forked Deer _D  5, count 'em, 5 parts.
Fish in the Millpond _D  Good on ya, Bren! (She's been fiddling for about a year).
Possum's Tail Is Bare _D  Thanks to Val!
Sugar Hill _D  Liam and Steve, vocals; Liam and Myfanwy on plunky stringed instruments; not sure who was dancing causing the spontaneous appreciation cheering.
Grey Cat on a Tennessee Farm _D  from Craig's annual Saturday midnight session
Cider _D  Another from Saturday night. It's a big file.
Lost Girl _G  A nice mando version from Justin.
Old Mother Flanagan _G  in G, but it works in A, too.
Orvetta Waltz _G  Get the original from Voyager Records, 'Now That's a Good Tune'.
Wink The Other Eye _G  Another Missouri tune
Bound To Have a Little Fun _G  Another G tune from Justin on the mando
Some original tunes...
Reggie Buttons Sidestep _D  This is the version when I introduced Ross's tune to the jammers at Blackwood.
Reggie Buttsons Sidestep _D  Just for comparison, this version was recorded a few weeks before the festival at Blackwood, with the composer, Ross Smithard, on fiddle and my buddy Tom on banjo in New South Wales.
Warm in a Snow Storm _D  This tune jumped out of my banjo one day. You can guess what the weather was like in New York state. As I'm fond of saying, "counting to 2 is the hardest part of playing old time". You might catch my attention deficit on display when I play a part 3 times instead of 2. :-)
